We're glad you found us!Roll over the pictures on the left to learn more about our programs and services. Have you ever considered a career in the trades? In technical fields? In transportation? Then you've come to the right place! Our mission is to improve the economic well-being of Maine women, minorities, and displaced workers by providing access to trade, technical, and transportation careers, and by providing you support once you get there. We offer both basic and advanced training, job-placement assistance, advocacy, and networking opportunities. You can count on us for information on careers in construction and related fields, and we provide assistance to employers looking for a twenty-first century workforce. All services are available to members of our JobBank, and joining is easy and free. We will ask you to fill out a form, and then arrange an interview for you to speak with our Career Development and Training Director. Most of our trainings are free to our JobBank members. Occasionally we charge small fees; these may be waived in cases of financial need. All of our trainings require a small registration fee which is always returned if you successfully complete the course. Sometimes we offer events that are open to the general public, like our ever-popular, always-rocking Introduction to Heavy Equipment ; registration fees are required for these as well. Check out our "Events and Trainings" pages to see what we have on tap! We partner with the Maine Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration to place our JobBank members into On-The-Job Training (OJT) positions. You can learn more about this program by clicking on the "hard hat" link on the left. Each year, we host a Maine Tradeswomen's Conference with workshops, discussion groups, good eating, and a whole lot of fun! Look at our Maine Tradeswomen's page for details ( updated in late winter for the next spring's Conference). Thanks to everyone who turned out for the '08 Conference - it was a blast! We also organize "field trips" to job sites so you can get an up-close look at the opportunities that are out there in construction. If you've thought about apprenticeships in the trades, we can help you out there as well. Not sure if this is the career path for you? Download, print, and take the Self-Assessment Survey to explore further. Want more information? Call for a copy of our latest newsletter (click here for an archived edition), to receive a JobBank application (you can download one here), or for more information on our organization. You can stop by and visit us if you are in Augusta, and spend some time in our Resource Room exploring different careers. Join us in Women Unlimited - you'll become part of a strong organization that will be behind you as you grow in your career, and you'll have opportunities to share what you've learned and to get involved in the things that matter to you. If you work hard, we'll work even harder for you! Give us a call - we're here to help! |
